In Aug 2017, Bolton Council rejected an application by SHARPLES SERVICE STATION to demolition the existing petrol filling station and residential dwelling and erect a new petrol filling station with ancillary retail store together with drive-thru coffee shop, car parking, access and landscaping details.
In Dec 2017, Sharples Service Station decided to appeal against the decision, normally it will be referred to the Secretary of State for a final decision. Most appeals are determined by Planning Inspectors on behalf of the Secretary of State. However, the Secretary of State has the power to make the decision on an appeal rather than it being made by a Planning Inspector – this is referred to as a ‘recovered appeal’.
