On Thursday 19th April, there were several serious accidents in and around the junction of Blackburn Road and Moss Bank way, one involving a police car. In 2016 it was reported that Bolton Council employs one part-time road safety officer for the borough.
Road safety campaigner Warren fox said; “Junction improvements alone will not solve congestion issues and road safety. Too many frustrated drivers are jumping red lights, taking chances, and many are on their mobile phones.
It’s a perfect storm of driver behaviour, poor road conditions for pedestrians and cyclists, congestion, lack of investment in road safety by the council & cuts to the public transport fund by the Conservatives.
If we want to create better road conditions in Bolton we really need a multifaceted approach, investment from the Council and Government, buy in from all the Councillors (no political games), proper public consultations and input from relevant associations.”
